IS 4985 is the primary Indian standard for uPVC pipes for potable water; it references hydrostatic (ISO 1167 method), falling weight impact, longitudinal reversion, Vicat softening and specific gravity tests as mandatory.
How long must the 1000-hour hydrostatic test run without interruption?
1000 hours continuous at the specified elevated temperature and hoop stress. Any interruption invalidates the test — professional panels use uninterrupted power and pressure control accordingly.
Do PPR pipes need OIT testing?
PPR long-term specifications require OIT for oxidative-durability verification — the value predicts hot-water service life under stress.
Can one certification bench serve PVC + HDPE + PPR production simultaneously?
Yes — hydrostatic, impact, tensile and thermal testers are common. Only carbon-black and OIT are HDPE-specific and even those are useful across product lines.
