Impact Testing of Moulded Plastic Chair Seats

Seat Impact Tester

A pneumatic seat impact tester that checks the impact effect on the seat surface of moulded plastic chairs — an 18 kg weight is driven onto the seat by a pneumatic cylinder, with a counter to log the number of trials.

  • Checks impact on the seat surface of moulded plastic chairs
  • Pneumatic cylinder — 400 mm stroke, 40 mm diameter, solenoid valve
  • 18 kg impact weight with a trial counter
  • Four hard-chrome shafts, 2.0 m height; height adjustable

Overview

Prove moulded chairs survive repeated impact

Moulded plastic chairs must withstand repeated sitting impact without cracking at the seat. A seat impact tester delivers a controlled, repeatable impact to the seat surface and counts the number of trials, so manufacturers can verify a design and its resin and wall thickness.

International Equipments builds a pneumatic seat impact tester: a 400 mm-stroke, 40 mm-diameter cylinder with a solenoid valve drives an 18 kg weight onto the seat, guided by four 2.0 m hard-chrome shafts, with a height-adjustable frame and a trial counter. A 5–10 kg/cm² compressor is arranged by the customer. Manufactured in Mumbai.

How the test works

Step by step

  1. Position the chairPlace the moulded chair under the impact head.
  2. Set the heightAdjust the box height on the guide shafts to the seat.
  3. Run trialsThe pneumatic cylinder drives the 18 kg weight onto the seat; the counter logs each trial.
  4. InspectCheck the seat surface for cracking or failure after the set number of trials.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does the seat impact tester check?
The impact effect on the seat surface of moulded plastic chairs — an 18 kg weight is driven onto the seat repeatedly and the seat is inspected for failure.
How is the impact applied?
A pneumatic cylinder (400 mm stroke, 40 mm diameter) with a solenoid valve drives the weight; four 2.0 m hard-chrome shafts guide it.
Is a compressor included?
A 5–10 kg/cm² compressed-air supply is arranged by the customer; all other components are provided.
Can the height be adjusted?
Yes — the box holding the cylinder and solenoid valve is height-adjustable and lockable.
