Overview

Two key thermal properties on one oil bath

Vicat softening point and heat deflection temperature tell you the temperature at which a plastic starts to soften or deflect under load — critical for selecting materials that must hold shape in hot service, from pipes and fittings to electrical and automotive parts.

International Equipments builds the apparatus in two variants: a Computerised model with 2–6 stations, a microcontroller display and PC graphing/numeric reporting, and an Analogue model with a dial gauge for economical labs. Both operate from ambient to 300 °C with the standard heating rates of 50 and 120 °C/hour. Manufactured in Mumbai, CE marked and calibration-certified.

Analogue VSP / HDT Apparatus

2 stations with a dial gauge (10 mm range, 0.01 mm resolution) — an economical, standards-compliant option for small QC labs and teaching.

How the test works

Step by step

  1. Load the specimensPlace the specimens in the SS inner bath and add the required incremental load.
  2. Set heating rateSelect 50 °C/hour or 120 °C/hour per the test method.
  3. Heat the bathThe oil bath is heated at the set rate; the sensor tracks penetration or deflection.
  4. Record VSP / HDTVSP and HDT are read on the microcontroller and (Computerised) graphed and reported through the PC.

What is the difference between VSP and HDT?
Vicat softening point measures the temperature at which a standard needle penetrates the material under load (ASTM D1525 / ISO 306); heat deflection temperature measures where a bar deflects under a bending load (ASTM D648 / ISO 75). Both run on this apparatus.
Should I buy the Computerised or Analogue model?
Choose Computerised for 2–6 stations with PC graphs and numeric reports (ISO 9001 / NABL labs); choose Analogue for a 2-station tester with a dial gauge — economical and reliable for small QC labs and teaching.
