The Complete Pipe Testing Equipment Checklist for PVC, HDPE & PPR Manufacturers

Published 2026-07-15 · International Equipments, Mumbai

Certification bodies do not audit intentions — they audit laboratories. Whether you extrude PVC pressure pipe to IS 4985, HDPE to IS 4984/ISO 4427, PPR plumbing systems or HDPE PLB telecom ducts, the standard's test clauses translate directly into a list of machines your in-house lab must own and calibrate.

This checklist maps every common requirement to its equipment — the same scope covered on our Pipe Testing Equipments page.

Mandatory for Every Pressure Pipe Lab

Additional for PE Pipe & PLB Duct

For Fittings Production

Add the Seat Impact Tester and Back Punch Impact Tester, plus a Muffle Furnace for ash/filler checks on incoming compound. Full guidance for extruders is consolidated on our testing equipment for plastic pipe manufacturers page — or ask our engineers to prepare a clause-by-clause equipment list against the exact standard you certify to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which tests does IS 4985 require for PVC pipes?
The core in-house battery includes hydrostatic (acceptance and type), falling-weight impact at 0 °C, longitudinal reversion, Vicat softening and dimensional checks - the standard's tables define frequencies per batch.
What extra equipment does HDPE pipe need compared to PVC?
PE adds MFI, OIT, carbon black content and dispersion, ESCR and density testing, reflecting polyethylene's stabiliser- and grade-sensitivity.
Can one laboratory serve both pipe and fitting production?
Yes - most machines are shared; fittings only add the seat and back punch impact testers and their conditioning capacity.
Do certification bodies accept in-house test results?
BIS and similar schemes are built around continuous in-house testing with calibrated equipment and records, supplemented by periodic independent verification - which is exactly why the in-house lab list is mandatory.
