Dart Impact Tester

A falling-dart impact tester that determines the impact failure weight of plastic films and sheeting by the free-falling dart method, to ASTM D1709 and IS 2508.

  • To ASTM D1709 and IS 2508
  • Two darts with electromagnetic release
  • Vacuum specimen clamping (single-stage oil vacuum pump)
  • Incremental weight set from 5 g to 500 g

Overview

How tough is your film against a sudden drop?

Dart impact is the standard toughness test for plastic film. A weighted dart is dropped onto a clamped film specimen; by raising or lowering the weight in steps the tester finds the weight at which 50% of specimens fail — the film impact failure weight.

International Equipments builds a dart impact tester to ASTM D1709 and IS 2508, with an electromagnetic dart release, vacuum clamping of the specimen and a graduated 5–500 g weight set. Manufactured in Mumbai, CE marked and calibration-certified.

How the test works

Step by step

  1. Clamp the filmThe film specimen is held flat by vacuum from a single-stage oil vacuum pump.
  2. Load the dartFit the dart and set the starting weight.
  3. DropRelease the dart electromagnetically onto the film.
  4. Staircase to F50Raise or lower the weight in 5–500 g steps to find the weight at which 50% of specimens fail.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is dart impact testing?
It measures the impact failure weight of plastic film — using the staircase method, the tester finds the dart weight at which half the specimens fail (F50), to ASTM D1709 and IS 2508.
How is the film held?
The specimen is clamped flat by vacuum from a single-stage oil vacuum pump for consistent, repeatable results.
How is the dart released?
Electromagnetically, for a clean, repeatable free-fall onto the specimen.
What weight range is supplied?
An incremental set of weights from 5 g to 500 g for the staircase method.
